The Truth About Sexual Desire | Hannah Witton
YouTuber and sex and relationship educator Hannah Witton debunks myths for her audience of young people
Where would you go to find out about sex ed online? What sources do you trust? This video takes a classic educational format and updates it in a tongue-in-cheek way, speaking directly to young people, predominantly young women. It questions the standard narrative around sexual desire, and highlights how capitalist culture negatively impacts sex lives.
Hannah Witton is a YouTuber, author, podcaster, and an ambassador for the young people's sexual health charity, Brook. In 2012, she started creating video content covering sexual health and relationships, gaining hundreds of thousands of YouTube subscribers before winding down the channel in December 2023 in order to broaden her focus. Her current YouTube channel, More Hannah, is filled with "nerdy and conscious lifestyle content" and addresses topics including sustainable style, books and being a working parent.
Those working in the sex education space online must tread a fine line. If a video's content is deemed to not meet YouTube's community guidelines, it can be demonetised by the platform, stripping away the creator's revenue stream. Hannah has never shied away from sensitive topics though and used her former channel to also talk about periods, menstruation and contraception in her strand The Hormone Diaries, as well as sharing her experiences of life with a stoma and what it means to have an invisible disability.
