Duke and Duchess of York... Hospital at Walthamstow Topical Budget 849-1

The future King George VI and future Queen Mother pay a whistlestop tour of a new hospital extension in Walthamstow

This film shows the opening of the Leyton And Leytonstone War Memorial Ward in 1927, attended by the Duke and Duchess of York – who would eventually become King George VI and the Queen Mother. They are greeted by waving crowds and soldiers bearing arms, who the Duke inspects while the Duchess smiles in the background, before they return to their car for their next engagement.

The Children's And General Hospital For Leyton, Leytonstone, Walthamstow And Wanstead was opened in the late 19th-century.
