Lane Setting (ATV Today)

At Ratcliffe Culey in Leicestershire preparations are underway for the annual lane setting.

Since 1880 the residents of Ratcliffe Culey have been able to buy sections of grass verge at the annual lane setting auction. This unusual custom can be traced back to the Enclosure Act, although, as George Parrott tells reporter Lynda Berry, he's not planning to buy a piece of land to graze animals on but create a bit of a picnic spot.
