Royal Proclamation of Death of Queen Victoria, Blackburn (1901)
Crowds gather outside theTown Hall to hear the town crier's royal announcement.
Despite its title, this film appears to show the proclamation of King Edward VII, successor to Queen Victoria - the cheers suggesting the celebration of the new King's accession to the throne. The two announcements of the death of Queen and the accession of the new King would have occurred almost simultaneously, in an unofficial variant on "The king is dead, long live the king."
Note: This may be a proclamation announcing the accession of King Edward VII which would date the film January 1901.
