Novara Media’s Ash Sarkar reports from an Extinction Rebellion protest on Westminster Bridge in October 2019

Founded in 2011 with the aim of building “a new media for a different politics”, Novara Media is an independent, non-profit and explicitly left-wing media organisation. Across video reports, livestreams, blogs and podcasts, they offer an alternative view to traditional news organisations and serve a young audience who seek a more politically-engaged form of reporting than can be found in the mainstream media.

In this report from 2019, contributing editor Ash Sarkar visits an occupation of Westminster Bridge orchestrated by climate change activists Extinction Rebellion, and investigates their continuing resolve to pursue peaceful methods of protest, to “fight fire with love” or, in other words, ‘lovebomb’ the cops.
