The Lord Mayor's Sunday in Newcastle November 10th 1912
The great and good of Newcastle upon Tyne parade through the city centre on Lord Mayor's Sunday.
Newcastle dignitaries in top hats and frock coats parade through the city centre on Lord Mayor's Sunday. En route to the Town Hall they pass a statue of Queen Victoria in St Nicholas' Square. At the time of this film the Lord Mayor was local businessman John Frederick Weidner, a shipowner and shipbroker who also exported coal from Newcastle.
The parade itself is somewhat funereal, but the eagle-eyed, curious viewer will spot what appears to be a vegetarian cafe in the corner of the square - perhaps surprising for 1912.
