The Miller and the Sweep
A battle of soot versus flour
A chimney sweep with a bag of soot bumps into a miller carrying a bag of flour - what could go wrong? This lively comedy, with its beautiful black and white symmetry, was filmed by George Albert Smith against the spinning sails of Race Hill Mill near Brighton. The miller and the sweep beat 50 shades of grey out of each other till a crowd we have not hitherto seen come and chase them both away.
In front of a windmill, a miller with a bag of flour accidentally bumps into a sweep carrying a bag of soot. The result is a fight in which the miller becomes covered with soot and the sweep with flour; both are chased by a crowd of on-lookers.
