Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee Paul (York Road 5)
The head of the procession approaches Westminster Bridge
When RW Paul sold and exhibited his films of the Jubilee, he put this film first, despite the fact that it was filmed later in the day than the films at St Paul's. It's clear why. Captured here is the very head of the procession, led by Captain Ames - at 6'8'', the tallest officer in the army. His presence at the front of the procession was well publicised and so showing this film first would give the impression of seeing the procession from the beginning. An early editing trick?
Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee procession, filmed from York Road, just
before Westminster Bridge. Various carriages shown (not the Queen's).
