Simey: Coronation and Hay Making

It's haymaking time at Kinnersley in Herefordshire and there's a village fete too.

The Reverend E.G.T. Simey shot this reel of 9.5mm in his home village of Kinnersley in Herefordshire. Children's races and sideshow games are a highlight of events to mark the Coronation of King George VI but there's real work to be done in the fields with the hay to gather. Vintage grass cutters and rakes are called into action (modern viewers may worry for the safety of the boy perched on the rake). A timeless farming scene where the horse will remain king for a few more years.
