Barnstaple Fair
Roll up, the fair's in town - even with a war on.
Roll up, roll up! For generations of North Devonians, September has meant the fun of Barnstaple's annual fair. Among the oldest in Britain and still taking place today, it was one of few to persist through the Great War. That's perhaps why the editors of Gaumont Graphic, one of three major newsreels of the day, saw fit to dispatch a cameraman to film (in wet weather) scenes connected to its opening - starring the town's mayor, some prize cows and a dizzying carousel.
