Derby Day

Join the swelling crowds for an Epsom Derby plagued by some of the worst weather conditions on record.

Tens of thousands descended on Epsom for the derby day, which was gleefully attended by people from all classes and corners of the country, and this film gloriously captures the spectacle's revelry. The derby, won by Sansovino, represented a rare win for Lord Derby - whose family the event was named after - netting him the first prize of £11,755 (close to £2million today).
