Panoramic View of Southport Promenade (1902)

All aboard the charabanc for a trip along an Edwardian promenade.

Smartly-dressed passengers climb aboard an imposing horse-drawn carriage during a trip to Southport. The picturesque promenade was an appealing spot for Edwardians enjoying some leisure time, and the filmmakers are careful to soak up the atmosphere - the camera sweeps round in an ambitious (for 1902) 180-degree pan to capture the whole spectacle of the pier and its attractions.

M&K 384: A horse-drawn carriage passes the camera with many aboard. Some passengers get off and fool around in front of the camera. A woman can be seen playing a brass instrument. She climbs aboard the coach again. Another shot, this time the camera is aboard the coach, following a man walking in front with an advert. You can see a man's hat in the bottom of the frame.
