The East Anglian Film Archive, the UK's first regional film archive, offers a unique record of the East of England's social and cultural history. As part of the University of East Anglia, we continue to lead moving image heritage research and inspire audience participation through community projects and events. Our collections represent a broad range of amateur and professional creativity, from 1896 to the present day.

Work and Play

The Rush family asked George Wilden to record their happy times bringing in the grain harvest on their farm at Occold in Suffolk, then relaxing at the beach. Farm workers and helpers picnic together amongst the straw. During the dusty work of reaping and threshing, the children enjoy riding on the tractor and on the farm horse pulling the waggon piled high to bring the harvest home. At the beach, the family wriggle decorously into their bathing costumes, and laugh as they sit together floating in a rubber boat.
