Wenvoe Agricultural Show September 10th

The pigs, ponies and beetroot of agricultural shows in south Wales – Wenvoe and Margam & Pyle.

September agricultural shows: Wenvoe and Margam & Pyle. Reginald G Iles, a founder member of The South Wales and Monmouthshire Agricultural and Horse Shows Association, opens the film with footage of the association's honorary treasurer at leisure, hunting rabbits with spaniels. The shire horses, pigs, sheep, ponies and prize-winning beetroot of the shows follow and a closing inter-title advocates membership of the association: “It will be to your advantage”.

Reginald George Iles worked in the Bonus Department of Imperial Tobacco in Cardiff but outside of work filmed local shows for the association of which he was a founder member. He would screen the films in Cardiff (e.g. at the Park Hotel) and elsewhere in the area during the winter months. His two daughters were keen horse-riders, and the family moved from Cardiff (Heathwood Road) to Trebettyn farm in Cowbridge in 1948 in order to develop their interest. Both became horse breeders in later life.
