Middlesex: Business Houses' Race Topical Budget 803-2

Mud flies everywhere as hundreds of runners representing different companies take part in a huge cross-country race in Ruislip.

Ruislip hosts this annual race between men representing different businesses, which we learn is eventually won by HW Payne (Great Eastern) for the fourth time. Hundreds are seen taking part, splashing through mud and leaping over stiles, reflecting an era when inter-company sports competition was a hugely popular form of entertainment for many Londoners, with numerous large companies owning or leasing a sports ground in London.
