The East Anglian Film Archive, the UK's first regional film archive, offers a unique record of the East of England's social and cultural history. As part of the University of East Anglia, we continue to lead moving image heritage research and inspire audience participation through community projects and events. Our collections represent a broad range of amateur and professional creativity, from 1896 to the present day.

Felixstowe Sports and Carnival

In 1930, Alfred Sinfield filmed Felixstowe's seafront attraction of the boating lake where families race model sailing boats. A fashionable pastime that includes prizegiving. Next, an intertitle reads “Constable’s Country” and we see Bridge Cottage, noted as the location for works by John Constable, and nearby Flatford Mill and Willy Lott’s Cottage, a place for painters to practice their art. The film then returns to Felixstowe’s Sports Day and Carnival festivities.
