Somerset and Nottinghamshire are playing in Cornwall

The English domestic cricket season gets underway with this match between Somerset and Nottinghamshire. Nottinghamshire cricketers are Derek Randall, exercising in the outfield and Mike Harris. Somerset's Brian Rose and Phil Slocombe pass Mervyn Kitchen on their way out to the middle. Slocombe was part of the Somerset Second XI team at the age of 14 and made his debut against Sussex in May 1975 and quickly progressed to opening the batting alongside Brian Rose.

Derek ‘Rags' Randall was born in Retford and played for Notts from 1971 until 1992. He played for England in 47 Test and 49 one-day international matches for England. He was known for his unorthodox batting and excellent fielding. Mike Harris was nicknamed Pasty Harris because he was born in St Just in Roseland in Cornwall. His career spanned from 1964 until 1982 and for Notts he scored over 15000 runs. From 1974 to 1977, Nottinghamshire used him as a wicket-keeper - batsman.
