Military Skyvan

Witness a 'Flying Shoebox' take to the skies in this promotional film extolling the virtues of Shorts Brothers hugely versatile Skyvan

Affectionately called 'The Shed' by pilots and crew, the no-frills Skyvan was designed to be a functional aircraft. It was used by both civilian and military operators, with various models produced between 1963-1986. Its longevity owed much to its proven track record and reputation as a tough, reliable craft. This film focuses on the Military Skyvan. As shown here, this adaptable craft was used in all manner of scenarios from casualty evacuation to paratrooper drops.

This film comes from the collection of National Museums Northern Ireland.
