Simla Scenes: Indian Viceroy at Lahore
An intimate insight into the servant culture and lifestyle of the Viceroy of India and family, as they visit Simla (Shimla) and Lahore
This intimate footage of life for the Viceroy of India and family opens in Simla (Shimla), the northern Indian hill station and summer capital of the British Raj. They travel by rickshaw, car and train to Lahore, capital of pre-partition Punjab (now in Pakistan). Possibly shot by Col. Taylor, Chief Engineer to North Western Railways, Lahore, the hill railways are a particular feature, as is the mock-Tudor high street built under the Raj - offering homesick Brits a familiar slice of the Home Counties.
Amateur footage of scenes in and around Simla - street scenes and rickshaws;
