The East Anglian Film Archive, the UK's first regional film archive, offers a unique record of the East of England's social and cultural history. As part of the University of East Anglia, we continue to lead moving image heritage research and inspire audience participation through community projects and events. Our collections represent a broad range of amateur and professional creativity, from 1896 to the present day.

Stage Coach

Not your typical pub punter! The passengers of a Victorian mail coach stop for refreshments at Pulham Market's Crown Inn.

In 1977 a Norwich Union-sponsored mail coach recreated the Norwich to London run marking the centenary of the last run in 1877. Amateur filmmaker Pauline Webb captured on film the horse-drawn coach, when it made a stop at her local pub, Pulham Market's Crown Inn on Harleston Road. An unusal sight, the coach passengers, all wearing Victorian period costume, stop for a glass of port, meanwhile the children of the village get to climb aboard the carriage for a closer look.
