Herring Drifters at Great Yarmouth

When the holiday season is coming to a close at Great Yarmouth, another season is just beginning. Amateur filmmaker Mr Taberham recorded the herring drifters as they return to the quayside, a familiar sight for locals. After the boats have been properly secured, the job of unloading begins. At one time, Scottish fisher girls would be waiting to gut and prepare the fish in the open air. However, by the 1950s, the boxes are loaded onto the waiting lorries ready for distribution.
