New Covent Garden - Europe's Super Market
The historic backbone of London's five-a-day is moved from Central London to its new home in Nine Elms
After over 300 years of providing Londoners with their five-a-day and helping Cockneys say it with flowers, the historic Covent Garden market closed in 1974. The film certainly makes a strong case for the transport and logistical nightmare the area had become, and goes into some detail about its new home in Nine Elms. The heavy hand and generous budget behind the film (check out the middle ages banquet) are evidence of the need to for a big PR push to overcome reservations about the change.
Brief history of Covent Garden Market, followed by an explanation as to why it was necessary for the Market to move to a new site. Illustrates the improved facilities available in the new complex.
