Shrove Tuesday Pancake Race in Chapelfield Gardens

About Anglia's "much fancied" Jane Probyn competes in the all-women Jif Lemon Pancake Race held in Chapelfield Gardens in Norwich in 1971.

Anglia Television's regular commentator Vic Birtles welcomes the viewer to Chapelfield Gardens in Norwich for “the first big event of the racing calendar in 1971”, referring to the all-women line-up for the Jif Lemon Pancake Race, which includes About Anglia's regular commentator Jane Probyn sporting a number fourteen shirt.

Nineteen cities throughout the United Kingdom were due to take part in the Jif Lemon Pancake Races, with the fastest time of all the cities becoming supreme champion. Mrs Shaw gave the fastest time in Norwich, despite being, in her own words, “quite a bit older” than most of the runners.
