The film starts with Silver Jubilee celebrations in Winchester. After seeing various civic dignitaries on parade, we attend a period costume cricket match and a mysterious firelight march. Next, the winner of a car is announced at a Guildhall ceremony, after which we see the winner receiving news of her prize. An annual inspection of the local St John's Ambulance takes place followed by children sending birthday greetings to the new king, as yet uncrowned, Edward VIII.
