Coronation of Edward VII (1902)

Coronation of Edward VII (1902)

A short glimpse of the new King's delayed coronation procession through London.

This seems to be the only surviving fragment of Mitchell & Kenyon's record of the King's coronation procession, which originally ran over 10 minutes. Since Victoria's death in January 1901, events including a case of appendicitis had delayed the ceremony. Edward was finally crowned in a low-key event in August, and the celebration procession took place on the 25th October 1902.

Photographed by Mitchell and Kenyon from the grounds of Westminister Abbey. Refered to by Denis Gifford as 'King's Coronation Procession'.
