The era of Roman Ambramovich seems a world away in this mix of competitive and novelty sports - including a donkey derby - at Chelsea's Stamford Bridge in 1914. The event clearly attracted a sizable crowd - and the newsreel cameras. Though most associated with football, Stamford Bridge was used by the London Athletics Club from 1877; the beautiful game didn't arrive until 1905.
