He first rose to prominence in the late 1940s, addressing huge crowds in indoor and outdoor rallies throughout the US. He subsequently took his message around the world. He has also acted as pastor to numerous American leaders, holding personal audiences with sitting Presidents - from Harry S. Truman to Barack Obama. By harnessing the power of the broadcast media, Graham has been a notable presence in the secular sphere too, even appearing on television to debate theology with Woody Allen.
