Dennis Price gives his best Noël Coward impersonation in an attempt to sell TV advertising to brands.
Ad agency Foote, Cone and Belding invented this half-hour of television to persuade clients to buy advertising slots on the new ITV network. They even made fake adverts, one featuring Dennis Price impersonating Noël Coward. There are also glimpses of the sort of drama anticipated for ITV, with mocked-up mini-episodes of mystery series 'Strange Experiences', starring a young Peter Sallis.
This collection shows how some advertisers struggled to find the right voice and formats for the new medium, while others hit the ground running. Look out for rare examples of the shortlived 'admags' - banned in 1962 for blurring the distinction between programmes and adverts.
