Crowning Glory

Publicity film for Amami hair products

A director walks onto a film set under construction, greeting his secretary
and the crew. He asks for quiet and talks directly to the camera, asking the
audience to follow him on the making of a film about hair beauty.

They start in the country where they observe and film a woman who is hiking,
commenting on her hair. They switch to a city scene in London near The Strand
and follow a business woman on the street and in her office. The film a
society woman at her dressing table preparing to go out. They follow her to a
party she is attending where dancers perform. They film some of the women at
the party, including one who is pestered by an unwanted suitor.

Switching locations again they film a woman swimming in a pool, commenting on
how to care for her long blonde hair when she removes her swimming cap.

Then the director turns the camera on the audience, looking for someone there
with the right hair to finish the picture. A woman in an audience stands and
despite the rejections of the director steps into the cinema screen. She
immediately takes up the part of Betty in a dramatic scene, who is having
problems with her boyfriend. Her friend Louise tells her problem is her hair
and they wash it with Amami shampoo (which she is told to do every Friday
night) and then apply Amami wave set (which she should use every day). At a
dance Betty and Louise sit on sofas with their men kissing; the film director
appears and shoots a close-up. He draws the film to a close. End slogan on
screen: "Friday night is Amami Night".
