Girl Pipers

Gorgeous colour film of a school fair in Enfield with sports day and Dagenham Girl Pipers display

There's much fun to be had with the many races and presentations in this film and, quite lovely, just a Snippet of a child eating a Wall's ice cream brick. The latter sequence shows the Dagenham Girl Pipers, who toured extensively. The band has a long and interesting history: during a pre-war performance Hitler was heard to remark: "I wish I had a band like that."

This film is from the collection of Enfield Local Studies Library and Archive, a member of the London's Screen Archives Network.
