Bradford Coronation Procession (1902)
Much of West Yorkshire turns out to mark the accession of King Edward VII to the throne.
Something of an epic by Mitchell & Kenyon's standards, this shows various events staged in Bradford city centre to mark the coronation, including a lavish historical pageant, a traction engine, and much celebration of the British Empire. But there are also more local displays devoted to lifeboats, lamplighters, industries and those all-important brewers and victuallers.
M&K 621: Boy brass band begin the procession. Series of carnival floats that look a bit like a castle. First states Edward I, the second Edward II, and so on until Edward VI. All the floats are incredably ornate. Sometimes the float stops in front of the camera to focus more on the individuals on the float.
