Brighton & Hove Band of Hope Demonstration

This remarkable film shows a Temperance Movement demonstration on Brighton's seafront. Led by Sergeant Lacey, on horseback, we see a parade of boys and girls bearing garlands, replica weapons and waving flags as they march past the camera. A decorated 'Garden of Temperance' display is also carried by the children. Various banners with temperance slogans are borne by the children as they wait for the march to begin. Note the beer, wine and liquor shops in the background.
