French Lessons (ATV Today)

J'habite à Colwall. The women of the Herefordshire village's W.I. group go back to school in time for the Common Market.

Helen Piddock visits Colwall in Herefordshire where members of the Women's Institute have decided to learn French to prepare for Britain's forthcoming membership of the EEC. For a rural area like Colwall this seems like a great idea: what better than to be able to discuss common agricultural policy with our new allies in the welcoming French farming community? The only male voice is also the only dissenting one, claiming that, "An Englishman's home is his castle".

The opening section is without sound. A live voice over would have covered this section when originally broadcast by ATV.
