Screen Archive South East at the University of Brighton collects, preserves, catalogues and provides public access to its collection of films and magic lantern slides. The collection charts the rise of screen culture in the region and the nation and captures many aspects of life, work and creativity in the South East from the late 19th century to the present day. It is available for research, screenings, creative re-use and commercial access.

Chichester - a Georgian City


A portrait of Chichester that reveals the city's Roman, Medieval, Tudor and Georgian architectural heritage.

Starting with shots of the cathedral, this film goes on to feature numerous aspects of Chichester's architectural history. The River Lavant is seen as well as the city's ancient Roman walls. Next we see the famous late medieval Cross as well as gates built in the Tudor period. The films shows the city's quiet streets lined with Georgian houses as well as notable features of the city like the Council House, Shippam's fish and meat paste factory and an open-air market.
