Forget Sir W Raleigh laying down his cloak for the Queen. Here, Cardiff Amateur Cine Society members lay down their newspapers for the ladies!

Chivalrous members of Cardiff Amateur Cine Society lay down their newspapers for the ladies as they and their families experiment for fun with different methods of self-propulsion on a day out (possibly days out). They also give beach cricket a go, a camera tripod acting as wicket. Chris Jenkins (1901-90), proprietor of a hair salon in Charles Street, Cardiff, shot this footage which features his children and his wife Beatrice, who closes the film laughing.
