Trade Union March & Bethnal Green Carnival

Trade unions marching on the Embankment represented the print, transport and retail industries, and placards can also be seen protesting the UK's sale of arms to South Africa. Bethnal Green Carnival offers more joyous scenes: stunning floats; Southend's replica steam engine, the Kursaal Flyer, which for more than 10 years travelled the country collecting money for charity; and a dash of carnival queen glamour.
