My Pipe Dream

Up in smoke - an era draws to a close for the clay-pipe makers of Manchester.

John Pollock & Son of Manchester was one of the biggest names in British clay-pipe manufacture, and in this delightful and poignant film, Gordon Pollock, the owner, worries about the future of the business as he nears retirement. This is a record of the last days of a craft industry, showing not only the pipe-making processes, but also the dedication and versatility of the long-serving staff.
