As a woman, the film's director, Joan Duff, was a rare phenomenon in the film industry. She worked for the prolific Film Unit of the National Coal Board, who produced this film, as well as for the BBC.

Nottingham Corporation incinerate the city's rubbish to fuel the biggest district heating scheme in Britain. Coupled with a coal fired heat station the scheme heats redevelopments in the city centre, several housing areas and existing buildings.
